Adeline Finke

Adeline Marian Finke, age 94 of Martell, WI, died on Thursday May 23, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family . Adeline was born September 28, 1918 in Troy Township, St. Croix County WI to parents Albert Lawrence and Mary Louise (Messersmith) Trebus. Like so many of her generation, Adeline attended country school.

On September 28, 1939, on her 21st birthday, Adeline would be united in marriage to Robert William Finke. Their union in marriage would be blessed with three children; Barbara, Bill, and Judy. Robert would precede her in death on October 17, 1980.

Besides being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Adeline worked at the O’Connell Orchard, then at the River Falls Lutheran Home, and Smeeds in River Falls. On the family farm, Adeline raised chickens, cows, sheep, and turkeys. She also drove the “country school car pool” for many of the rural kids. Adeline also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, bowling, cooking, gardening and canning vegetables, as well as baking, where Adeline will be remembered for baking many wedding cakes. Adeline enjoyed playing card games like 500 and Rummy with others, and going to the casino. Adeline made an annual event of camping and fishing with her grandkids.

Adeline is survived by her children, Barbara (Dan) Carlstrom of Martell, Bill (Marlene) Finke of Martell, and Judy Finke of Eagan MN; grandchildren, Jackie (Herbert) Bennett, Dawn (Marvin) Glenna, Vickie (Brian) Shedore, Faye (Dave) Hanson, Tony Carlstrom, and Frosty Duckson; great-grandchildren, Kathy, Jessie, Bobby, Danny, Kim, Samantha, Mackinzie, Nathan, Michael, and Brandon; great-great-grandchildren, Gregory, Owen, Adeline, Cecelia, Alex, Lonnie, Skylar, Annie, and Kalan; brother, Jake Trebus of Martell; sister, Irene (Herbert) Minder of Beldenville; sisters-in-law, Avis Finke of Spring Valley, Marilyn Trebus of Spring Valley, and Muriel Emerson of River Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; sister, Amelia Emerson; brother, Marvin Trebus; and brother-in-law, Gene Emerson. 

In honor of Adeline’s wishes, a Family Gathering for her will be held at a later date. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory of Baldwin.
