Al Mitchell

Alphonsus Leonard “Al” Mitchell, age 85, of Hudson, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 at The Gathering at Boutwell’s Landing in Stillwater, surrounded by his family. He was born the sixth of seven children to Raymond and Frances (Weigel) Mitchell on December 17, 1924 in Baldwin, WI. He graduated from New Richmond High School and went on to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering. He served in the US Army from 1946-47. On May 20, 1950, Al was united in marriage to Mary Ann P. Rivard. They were blessed with six children. Al owned and operated Mitchell Electric for 30 years. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church and member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years. Al was known for being a talented woodworker; he truly enjoyed donating his handmade toys and crafts for various charities. He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers and Twins, and he liked playing Euchre and joining friends for morning coffee. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Joseph, Viola, Raymond and Annie. Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; five sons:  Craig (Sharon Wong) of Minnetonka MN, Tom (Terese) of Hudson WI, Larry (Rochelle) of Hudson WI, Robert (Kathryn) of Bellingham WA, and Don of Telluride CO; daughter, Judy (Jerry) Lucas of Blaine MN; 10 grandchildren: Shawn, Kari, Leah, McKenzie, Andy, Frances, Liam, Benji, Jacquie, and Kyle; brothers, Tom of St. Paul and Louis (Delores) of White Bear Lake MN; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In memory of Al, memorials are preferred to St. Patrick’s School Scholarship Fund. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Al at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 21st at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Interment with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church and Tuesday, July 20th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725.
