Alice Marie Hoaglan passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the age of 86. Alice was born in Afton, MN on August 25, 1938 to Albert and Margaret Fritsche (nee Sinnett). Alice was the first born of nine children; she was a supportive and loving big sister. Alice met Harold G. Hoaglan when he returned from serving four years with the US Navy in Korea. Harold had written a letter to his brother asking him to “keep an eye on that little redhead.” When they met, it was instant love. Alice and Harold married and raised four children: Pamela, Kevin, Tammie, and Brenda in a home filled with love and adventure. Their home was always the gathering spot for family, neighbors and friends. Alice was the ultimate hostess and no one ever left her house hungry. We called her the “bag lady” because you couldn’t leave without some sort of bag full of goodies. Over the years, she worked as a taxi cab driver, a school bus driver, at Fleet Farm, and managed ticket sales at the Birch Park Ski Area. She worked at Christian Community Home Pine Ridge as a CNA for many years. At CCH, Alice found her calling…caring for her residents; this was a job she loved. Alice was a woman who liked to be busy. She was a knitter, and created beautiful sweaters, hats, mittens, and afghans. Her huge garden was always fruitful and she had a pantry full of canned goods. “Grandma’s dip” was a family favorite. She loved the Green Bay Packers and her trips to Lambeau were memorable. Becoming a grandmother was a great source of joy. If there was a concert, a sporting event or any activity, she was there. Alice loved a trip to the casino, playing cards, bingo, and garage sales.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents Albert & Margaret (Sinnett) Fritsche; husband of 51 years, Harold G. Hoaglan; son, Kevin Hoaglan; sisters: Marion Waldorf and Irene Camillo; brother, Paul Fritsche. Survived by her children: Pamela Stanek (Thomas) of Hudson, Tammie Whalen (Robert) of Stillwater, MN, and Brenda Hoaglan (Kathleen Morgan) of St. Paul, MN. Grandchildren: Anthony Stanek, Alana Stanek, Adrienne Benjamin, Wade Hoaglan, Katie Whalen, Lucas Whalen, Maura Whalen, Noah Schoenick, Hannah O’Nofre, Elias Schoenick. Her siblings: Roy Fritsche, Caroline Brockman, Shirley Gary, Harriet London, and Barb Fritsche. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Alice has lived at Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson for eight years. The friends she has made there and the care she has received from staff have filled her declining years with comfort and love. Moments Hospice and Inclusa have been incredibly loving and helpful.
Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit and energy will live on in those whose lives she touched.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Willow River Saloon/Carbone’s Pizzeria in Burkhardt ( 1106 Co. Rd A). Cremation will be entrusted to O’Connell’s. Burial will be at Willow River Cemetery.
