Alma I. Zimmerman

Alma Irene Zimmerman, age 107 of Woodville, WI, died on Tuesday evening, May 13, 2014 at the Park View Home. Alma was born March 23, 1907 in Baldwin Township to Axel E. and Ragna (nee Hakestad) Lindquist. Alma attended the Clarks Crossing Country School, and graduated from Glenwood City High School on May 27, 1925. After meeting at a barn dance in 1926 and courting for nearly two years, Alma and Walter Zimmerman were married before a judge on June 25, 1928 in Stillwater, MN. Their union in marriage would be blessed with two sons, Eugene and Richard. Alma and Walt would celebrate 78 wedding anniversaries before Walt’s passing in 2007.

Alma taught school for a couple years, and remained a devoted farm wife and homemaker for nearly 70 years. Alma was a member of the Birchdale Homemakers Club, and enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and gardening. After purchasing a farm of their own in 1936, Alma and Walt made their life together shouldering the work load that day-to-day farm life had to offer. In later years, Alma and Walt enjoyed taking occasional trips to Turtle Lake to try their luck. Alma’s longevity allowed for lots of love, laughter, and family, and the legacy of a life well lived.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Walt; her son, Eugene; her daughter-in-law, Zoa Zimmerman; her parents, Axel and Ragna; and her siblings, Harry, Alfred, Philip, Roy, Francis, and Alice. Alma is survived by her son, Richard Zimmerman of Minneapolis; daughter-in-law, Barb Zimmerman of Baldwin; grandchildren, Kevin (Sandy) Zimmerman of Baldwin, Karen Peterson (fiancé Kevin) of Baldwin, Mark (Julie) Zimmerman of Lino Lakes MN, Tammie (Mike) Curtis of Woodville, Brian Zimmerman of Baldwin, Kay (Ian) Gamble of Shakopee MN, Leslie Zimmerman of Minneapolis, and Michael Zimmerman of Delafield WI; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Memorials in Alma’s name may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran.
