Alvin Anderson

Alvin Anderson died peacefully at the Baldwin Care Center on September 8, 2011.  He was born October 1, 1924 in rural Baldwin in Alfred and Clara (Torgerson) Anderson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Woodside Church of Baldwin.  He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Alvin went to Hoover Country School and graduated from Baldwin.  After graduation he worked at several factories, but in his 40s he joined the Peace Corps.  He served with the Peace Corps three times, including trips to Africa, Central America, and South America.  Alvin enjoyed working with the Peace Corps and was extremely proud of the work he did with this organization. Alvin was a very Christian man, always praying for everyone.  He was a Sunday School teacher and also a superintendent.  He had a beautiful voice and used that talent to sing at weddings, funerals, and other occasions. Before moving to the Baldwin Care Center, Alvin lived in Sand Creek, WI where he made many friends and was active in the community.  After Alvin lost his eyesight it was difficult for him to live alone, so he moved to the Care Center where he kept his mind active by keeping on top of all the world events. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Anderson, sister, Jean Medes, and brother-in-laws Les Veenendall and Bill Medes.  He is survived by his sister Eloise Veenendall and brother Charles Anderson of Baldwin.  Other surviving family members include nieces Julie (Allen) Horton, Peggy (Jim) Montoya, and Robin Oliver, all of Denver, CO, Susan (Fred) Elliott of Winterport, ME, and Sandra Ferg of River Falls, WI.  Surviving nephews include Mike Veenendall, Roger (Debbie) Vennendall, Gerry (Bonnie) Veenendall, and Tim (Bonnie) Veenendall – all of Baldwin.

Funeral service for Alvin will be 11AM Tuesday September 13th at the Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Pastor John Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Woodside Cemetery in Baldwin with casketbearers being Mike Veenendall,  Roger Veenendall, Gerry Veenendall, Tim Veenendall, Dwight Alwin, and Duane Alwin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church Tuesday morning. Memorials preferred. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
