Alvin Langer

Alvin Peter Langer, age 85 of Prescott, WI, died November 6, 2019 at his home. Alvin was born January 14, 1934 in Oak Grove Township to Henry and Florence (Andrle) Langer. He grew up and attended schools in the farming communities of Cherma and Big River in the River Falls area where he assisted his father on their dairy farm, which had been in the Langer family for three generations.

Alvin was united in marriage to Geraldine Mary Reinardy on June 3, 1961 at St. Mary’s Church in New Trier, MN. Together they lived, and later acquired, his parent’s 240-acre farm, where they raised their six children. He was a devoted husband and caring father. Alvin followed his passions of faith, family, and farming throughout his life. Alvin was a kind, gentle, and humble man. He loved to work hard and enjoyed more than 60 years of farming. He loved his animals and took pride in raising one of the top dairy herds in Pierce County. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; both at the farm and attending their numerous events. He was an active and devout member of St. Mary’s Church in Big River. He led by example, sharing his unwavering faith in God with his family.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Marlys Langer and Joanne (Berg). He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geraldine; his six children, Kathie (Don) Baklund, Kevin (Terre’e) Langer, David (Ann) Langer, Gary (Sarah) Langer, Linda (Steve) Miller, and Jennifer (Chad) Nelson; his 17 grandchildren, Zach, Eric, Maria, Holly, Katie, Jake, Emily, Maggie, Matthew, Noah, Haley, Ryan, Jordan, Kayla, Cole, Brennan, Adelyn; and one great-grandson, Cooper (Jake & Carissa) who he adored. Alvin is also survived by three siblings, Donald (Doris) Langer, Rosie (Dick) Brookshaw, Judy (Don) Hermann; his in-laws, many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial for Alvin Langer will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 12th at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church, W10137 570th Avenue in rural River Falls, WI. Visitation will be held at the church two hours prior from 9:00-11:00 am, with a Rosary Service to be held at 10:30 am. Burial will follow the funeral Mass in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request is to have Masses said in Alvin’s memory. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of River Falls WI. 715-425-5644
