Tony was born in Berlin, Wisconsin on July 5, 1929 to Valentine and Frances Markowski.  He graduated from Berlin High School in 1948.  After high school he enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean War as an auto mechanic until his honorable discharge in June of 1952.

After the war he worked as an auto mechanic in Berlin where he met Nora Jean Cram.

They met at a dance in Green Lake and were married on September 3, 1955.  After the birth of their first child, Tony took a job with the St. Paul Post office and the family moved to Hudson, WI.  In Hudson Tony also worked part time for Casanova Liquor as a beer truck driver.

In 1978 after taking training in Washington, DC Tony was appointed Postmaster of the Lakeland, MN post office.  He enjoyed working behind the counter helping customers at the post office.  A highlight was issuing a special cancellation for a letter that was sent across country in a world record hot air balloon trip.

After he retired he was appointed to the City of Hudson Police and Fire Commission and served for 20 years.  He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

In retirement Tony and Nora enjoyed traveling and their favorite destination was Gulf Shores Alabama.  They became “snow birds” and enjoyed the warmer winters, the gulf, Mardi Gras activities, and the many Midwestern friends they met there.   Back home in Hudson, they volunteered at the Food Shelf.

Living on 2nd street in Hudson, the annual 4th of July Parade was a family favorite because it went right in front of their house.  There were many family gatherings for the 4th!

In his later years he enjoyed coffee outings, joking with the grandkids, puzzles, bingo and playing cards.
