Arden Stanley Flaten, age 82 of Hastings, MN, passed away May 4, 2019 at New Perspectives Senior Living in Woodbury. Arden was born April 25, 1937 in Morris, MN to Elmer and Marie (Myklejord) Flaten. He graduated from Fosston High School, the Class of 1955. Arden furthered his education receiving a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at Augsburg College, and followed with a Master’s degree at Michigan State. In 1963, Arden was united in marriage to Alice B. Krueger. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Kurt and Brian. Arden was a science teacher for the school district of Hastings for many years, until his retirement in 1994.

Arden and Alice enjoyed traveling, and were fortunate to visit all 50 states. Together, they were fond of camping, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and taking in the beauty of nature. Arden appreciated the peacefulness of the outdoors, and being on the lake fishing. He had a green thumb, and relished his time tending to his vegetable and rose gardens. He was a talented woodworker, and also loved to capture moments with photography.

Arden will remain in the hearts of his sons, Kurt (Rachael) Flaten of Kewaunee, WI, and Brian (Julie) Flaten of Hastings; grandsons, Erick, Sam, and Max Flaten; brother-in-law, Gene Marien; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; twin sister, Annette Marien; and his parents.

Funeral Services will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 400 Ninth Street West, Hastings, with Pastor Doug Duin officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until the start of the service, at the church. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. In remembrance of Arden, memorials are preferred to Lakeside Cemetery.
