Barbara L. Karsky, age 75 of Wyoming, Minnesota, passed away July 28, 2022 at the Fairview Medical Center in Wyoming. Barbara was born on June 19, 1947 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Edward and Lorraine (Kodilek) Lahl. She grew up in Hudson, Wisconsin and graduated from Hudson High School with the class of 1965. She continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and participated in a college exchange student program in the Netherlands. The program paired Barbara with her exchange family, the Van der Hammen’s, Karen, Nico and their daughters Marina, Laura and Sandra. They quickly became Barbara’s 2nd family and remained in close contact with her for the rest of her life. Upon her return, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Elementary Education in 1970 and began teaching. Barbara found the opportunity join American Airlines as a Flight Attendant in 1971 enjoying that job for 19 years. On February 2, 1985, Barbara was united in marriage to David Karsky at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hudson. The couple was blessed with a son, Kevin in 1991, and the family made their home on Comfort Lake in Wyoming Minnesota. Barbara cherished lake living and the opportunity to stay at home and raise Kevin.

Barbara loved her family and especially enjoyed entertaining and decorating for the holidays. Her vivacious and hardy laugh could always be heard echoing from her kitchen as she made wonderful meals and treats, and always wearing an apron.  She treasured pontoon rides in the evening, and spending time outdoors boating and fishing trips. Barbara enjoyed music and sang with the women’s barbershop group in Forest Lake, Sweet Adelines. She was fond of birds and animals, especially her cats and dachshund, Kaiser, and was an amateur photographer, earning the nickname “Karla Kodak”. Even after flight attending for 19 years, Barbara still enjoyed traveling and accompanied David on many getaways to Electrical Conventions with the NECA, where they made many lasting friendships. She also made many trips with David’s niece Gabriel Baker and her husband Alex, making lifelong memories together. Barbara had a deep love for the state of Minnesota and its’ many offerings, including the Minnesota Vikings.

Barbara will remain in the hearts of her beloved husband of 37 years, David; son, Kevin; sister, Linda (Frank) Rorvick; nieces and nephews, Sweet Niece Kecia (Chad) Bleeker, Grant Rorvick (Larry Schrierer), Robert (Krystin) Rorvick, Mickey (Wanda) Burnley, and Wendy Rice; many great-nieces and nephews, the entire Karsky family, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lorraine Lahl; and parents-in-law, Don and Dorothy Karsky.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 4:00-6:30pm, with a toast at 6:15pm, followed by a memorial service at 6:30pm all at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, WI.

    • I am extremely sorry to know that Barb has left this world. I cherish memories of times we shared together during high school, college, and Class of ‘65 reunions.

Is there a possibility that her service could be on Zoom for those of us who are far away?

      Sincerely,
      Candy
