Bettie Jean Montpetit (nee Long)

Bettie Jean Montpetit (nee Long); Age 94 of St Paul passed away peacefully at Episcopal Home Gardens from vascular dementia on September 3, 2017. Bettie was born on January 19, 1923 in Canton, Ohio; the daughter of James and Grace Long. She was raised in Canton, Ohio, graduating from McKinley High School. Following this, she worked as a secretary for the Hoover Company in Canton, Ohio. On March 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Clayton W. Montpetit at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Brooklyn, New York. In 1956, the Montpetits moved to Somerset, where she dedicated her life to her husband and five daughters.

When her daughters were all in school, Bettie got a job at Miller Hospital as a ward secretary and worked there many years. She then went to work for Griggs Cooper liquor distributors in the late 70’s. After retiring from Griggs, she volunteered at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury as a receptionist in the radiology dept.

She was an avid bridge player and traveled around the country and Canada playing in tournaments. From the time she was quite young, Bettie discovered a talent for writing poetry. She spent her entire life writing poems up until the time she was diagnosed with dementia. She was devoted to her faith and to her family and had many good friends.

Bettie is preceded in death by her husband Clayton, parents James and Grace Long, brothers Earl and Bill Long, and son-in-law Blackie Landreville. Bettie is greatly loved and will be missed by her daughters Rochelle Montpetit, Linda Montpetit, Joyce Landreville, Cindy (Keith) Schweiger, and Jody (Steve) Anderly. Devoted grandmother of Ricky, Joey, Kevin, and William, great-grandchildren Caleb, Emily and Megan, great-great-grandchildren Lydia and Laycie, special friend Jerry.

Memorial mass of Christian burial 10:00 AM Saturday at the Church of the Assumption, 51 W 7th St., St. Paul, with a visitation 1 hour prior to mass. Interment 2:00 PM Sunday at St Anne’s Cemetery in Somerset, WI. We wish to thank the staff at Episcopal Home Gardens and Asera Care Hospice for their exceptional and loving care of our mom. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Home, 2076 St Anthony Ave. St. Paul MN 55104. Funeral and cremation services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
