Betty Brickner

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Brickner, age 88, formerly of Prescott, WI, died on Wednesday evening, January 20, 2021. Betty was born on April 2, 1932 in Vermillion Township, Minnesota to parents Joseph and Martha (Meisch) Stoffel. She attended school in Hastings, and graduated from Hastings High School with the Class of 1950. Betty was united in marriage to Cletus Brickner on September 2, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Miesville, MN. Their union in marriage was blessed with over 50 years of love and devotion, two sons, and two generations of grandchildren.

Betty worked for over 30 years with the Smead Corporation. She was a devoted wife, mother and an excellent cook who loved to host her family at holidays and get-togethers. She and Clete enjoyed trips up north fishing for Northern pike and panfish, as well as travel around the country. Betty was a true Packers fan, a faithful member of the St. Joseph Parish and had the distinct honor of shaking hands with President John F. Kennedy.

After Clete’s passing in 2000, Betty sought to keep busy, so she went to work at Ptacek’s IGA for the next ten years. She truly loved seeing so many of her friends and neighbors there. After fully retiring, Betty enjoyed spending time at Ptacek’s having coffee, visiting and reminiscing with her beloved group of friends. Betty was a source of fun sayings, such as “Never spoil a good notion”, however, it was her genuinely sweet disposition, with a grateful and appreciative demeanor that will be missed by so many.

Betty will remain in the hearts of her sons, Jim (Karen) Brickner, and John (Shirley) Brickner; her grandchildren, James II (Donna) Brickner, Jason (Sherry) Brickner, Anna-Marie Brickner, Adam (Kate) Brickner, Jeremy Brickner, Anthony Brickner, David (Ali) Brickner, and Sarah (Kyle) Lasure; great-grandsons, Ben, Justin, Burke, Braeden, and Gavin; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clete; her parents; siblings, Bernard (Dorothy) Stoffel, and Florence (Merlyn) Munson.

With concern for the ongoing pandemic, a private family service will be held for Betty Brickner. Her final place of rest will be the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prescott. Condolences may be sent to The Family of Betty Brickner, c/o O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Ellsworth WI 54011.
