Betty Jean Dopkins

Betty Jean Dopkins, age 66 of Osceola WI, formerly of River Falls WI, died Tuesday at her home following a long battle with cancer.

Betty was born on November 5, 1948 in River Falls, the daughter of Levern and Irene (Betlach) Jenson. She married Ken Dopkins on February 24, 1968 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, River Falls, WI. Together they raised two children Tony and Angie.

Betty worked for the Andersen Corporation for many years. She loved cooking and baking for her family, decorating their home for the holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween. Attending to her plants, bird watching the orals, hummingbirds, finches, eagles and geese, listening to the loons call each other and watching the deer eat apples from their apple trees. But most of all she loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Ken and Betty enjoyed 46 years of marriage that took them from River Falls to their lake home that they planned together and built in 2011, for their retirement on Church Pine Lake in rural Osceola. For five months of the construction they lived in their garage so they could watch Betty’s “dream home” being built. In their 3½ years of retirement they enjoyed their daily “Happy Hour”, fished, traveling around the chain of lakes on their pontoon. Friday night supper dates in Star Prairie, playing Euchre, and entertaining friends and family at their home on the lake.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents: John and Mary Betlach, Obert and Molly Jenson and Parents Levern and Irene Jenson.

She is survived by her husband Ken, of Osceola. Children: Tony of North Hudson and Angie (Special friend Henry Skrypek), of St. Paul, MN. Grandsons: Thomas (Lucia) Dravis and Alex Dravis. Great grand-children: Joshia Anthony Dravis and Gabriella Elizabeth Dravis.

Brother: Dick Jenson and sister: Patty (Jeff) Lentz of River Falls.

She is further survived by her Aunt Bernice Krear, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty was so worried about her great grandchildren Joshia & Gabriella, that they wouldn’t remember her. Ken promised her that this would never happen, that her family would share with them the memories of her being a wonderful and loving grandma!

A funeral Mass for Betty will be held at 11:00am, Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls, WI. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass on Monday.

Cashman-Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services, River Falls, WI is serving the family.
