Early on the morning of July 9, 2023, Beverly Jean “Bev” Hogan, died peacefully in her sleep at Hammond Health Services Nursing Home of Hammond, Wisconsin. Bev was 93 years old.
Born to Nora and Lloyd Perry of Forestville then Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, Bev graduated from Gibraltar High School in Door County, Wisconsin, and over many subsequent years furthered her education at Dominican and Carthage Colleges and at University of Wisconsin extensions in Racine, Kenosha, and Green Bay.
After moving to and starting to work in Racine, she met William “Bill” Robert Hogan, in 1948, married him in 1950, and with him raised eight children. In 1971 she and Bill purchased and moved to her parents’ fruit-farm homestead at Egg Harbor. There, in addition to continuing her principal role as a housewife and mother, she grew primarily cherries and apples with the family. During the non-growing, harvesting, and selling seasons, she was a social worker for Door County.
In the late 1980s, she and Bill traveled by R.V. around the eastern and southeastern United States and bought a home in northwestern Arkansas where they lived for several years. In 1996, Bev and Bill moved back to Wisconsin to be near the bulk of their family, settling in the Fox River Valley, where Bev remained until a recent move to a senior-living facility at Hammond, Wisconsin, near her daughter Cynthia and Cynthia’s family.
In her spare time, Bev was largely involved with community, church, and school issues, activities, and events, including service as a member of the Gibraltar school board. A principal community achievement was to be one of the three founders in 1982 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, of Feed and Clothe My People (FMP), a Door County charitable organization to provide sustenance for local residents in need. In 2004 FMP of Door County (feedmypeopledoorcounty.com) joined Second Harvest, now known as Feeding America (feedingamerica.org).
Bev enjoyed the company of and visits with members of her very large, extended family. Among a wide variety of entertainments, she particularly enjoyed romantic-comedy and romance movies, Big Band music, the musical standards of the twentieth century, and the vocals of Vaughn Monroe.
Among her closest relations, Bev is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her daughter Mary Kathleen, her parents Lloyd and Nora, and her sisters Sandra Walder and Sharon Landstrom. Among her closest relations, Bev is survived by children (and in-laws) James (Crystal) Hogan, Michael (Kathy) Hogan, Mark (Valerie) Hogan, Julie Hogan, Patrick (Maxine) Hogan, Cynthia (Brian) Binkowski, Joel (Carrie) Hogan, Mary Smith; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister Joanne Cox, her brother Colin Perry, her sister Bonita Parsegian; and countless nephews, nieces, and cousins.
For their fine professional services and care, the family extends its thanks to Hammond (Wisconsin) Health Services and Saint Croix Hospice.
At Bev’s request, there will not be a funeral, a memorial, or other traditional, formal, official type of service. Please send any memorial donations in Bev’s name to Feed and Clothe My People (feedmypeopledoorcounty.com).
