Caralee “Ziggy” Burke

Caralee Anne Burke, 48, of River Falls, Wisconsin passed away Thursday, March 9th, 2023 at United Hospital, St. Paul.

Caralee was born to William D. Burke and Sherry L. Burke on October 31st, 1974 in Sidney, Montana, where she acquired what became her life long nickname “Ziggy” from her brother Greg. A lot of her fondest memories came from her adventures in Monticello, MN and continued on in North Hudson, WI where she spent most of her childhood.

Ziggy was very much led by her zodiac sign “The Scorpion” and was best known for her love of Halloween. She celebrated her birthday/favorite holiday with some of the BEST costumes and parties for her and her children. Even winning a contest or two! She enjoyed going to concerts and listening to all genres of music, and gave a whole new meaning to “Born This Way”. She also loved scary movies and musicals. “Gone with the Wind” being her favorite, of which you could find collectibles scattered throughout her house. You would often find Ziggy in her kitchen or tending to the flowers she planted with her children every year. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, and was known for her elaborate Thanksgiving dinners. When she wasn’t cooking you might find her listening to music around a giant bonfire, soaking up the sun in her pool, or enjoying night fishing in her favorite spot on Perch Lake!

She will forever remain in the hearts of her daughters, Miranda Austin (Grandson Atreyu Sandquist), Scarlett Leier, and Rochelle Roberts, Domestic Partner of 18 years Mark Leier, his children, Bob Leier (Stacy), Lisa Cary, Parents William and Sherry Burke, Siblings Greg (Holly) Burke, Colleen (Brett) King, her closest and dearest friends Shannon Perron and Christy Johnson, her nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Please join us for her Celebration of Life at Big Guys BBQ Saturday April 15th from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to her daughters Miranda and Scarlett please send to O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 s. 11th St. Hudson, Wi 54016

  1. My beautiful friend.
My words cannot express the place in my heart that you occupy and always have.
Our memories are some of the greatest times of my life.

    Mr. Hodge’s math class:
“Class, welcome our new student Caralee”
“Don’t EVER call me that, my name is Ziggy!”

Black jeans, bright red shirt, perfectly feathered golden blond rock star hair, and an attitude that screamed “JUST TRY ME”!

Most of the class looked afraid and I smiled . I knew life was about to change in Byron, and by 4pm that day, it did!

I thank God still, every day, for sending you to me and letting me have you when I needed you most.

Until we meet again my friend.
