Carl D. Finstad passed away from heart failure on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the age of 86. His body will be cremated by Cashman-Hill Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Etna (Wahl), father, Carl, sister, Helen Fina, and brother, Orvin (Beverly). He is survived by his daughter, Michele Joan Smith (George). He was a proud member of the Chosin Few, Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He earned his Doctorate and became a professor of science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, which earned him his nickname, Doc. His career involved working with “young minds”, as he fondly referred to the many students he had taught, coached, and supported throughout his successful career. Biology, environmental science, animals, and botany were his passions, along with singing for many years with a barber shop group. Carl touched countless lives and will be greatly missed by many who loved him.
