Carl W. McMullen

Carl W. McMullen, age 81 of Hudson, WI, passed away October 20, 2015 at Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson.  Carl was born June 23, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Warren Anthony and Cleo Katherine (Hepker) McMullen.  Carl graduated from Central College High School in McPherson, Kansas in the Class of 1952.   He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois.  He went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Chemistry at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, NY.  Carl was united in marriage to Ruth Cammin on June 9, 1956.  Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Carl Jr., Richard and Robert.  In his early career, Carl worked for Kendall Oil Company in Pennsylvania and taught Chemistry at North Park College in Chicago.  He then began a lasting career as a Research Chemist for 3M, working for over 34 years, retiring in 1996.  

Outside of work, Carl loved the outdoors, hiking and bicycling.  He took great joy in traveling with his wife and sons, especially out West.   He had great mechanic skills and was always willing to lend his garage, tools and his skilled hands to his sons, family and friends.  Carl loved jazz music and jazz concerts. Carl was a great listener, always providing a non-judgmental heart, providing a great example to those around him.  

Carl will remain in the hearts of his wife, Ruth; sons, Carl McMullen Jr., Richard (Karen) McMullen, and Robert (Gretchen) McMullen; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Whittingham of Rhinelander, WI and Barbara (Clayton) Strong of Mitchell, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Gathering will be held 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, with a 2:00 PM Service, Sunday, October 25 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, WI, with Pastor Paul Martin and Pastor Larry Szyman officiating.  Special music will be provided by Cheryl Martin and Catherine Gustafson.  Carl gave the gift of life through body donation to the University of Minnesota.  The McMullen family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers of Lakeview Hospice and Red Cedar Canyon Memory Care Unit for their exceptional and loving care.
