Caroline May “Carole” Buelow, age 79, of Venice, FL, formerly of Stillwater, MN, passed away on February 13, 2022. Carole was born on October 22, 1942 in St. Paul, MN, one of 8 children born to Albert and Lillian (Hanover) Winterbauer. She grew up in St. Paul, and graduated from Humboldt High School. On December 2, 1967, Carole married the love of her life, William “Bill” Buelow, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. The loving couple was blessed with two daughters, Annie and Tammy, and the family made their home on a hobby farm in Stillwater. Carole enjoyed raising her daughters, and worked in Nutrition Services at Oak-Land Junior High School in Lake Elmo, MN.

Carole had a love of horses, a love that her husband Bill also shared. In their young married life, they belonged to several saddle clubs and attended county fairs as Carole competed in barrel races and pole weaving events, earning many ribbons and trophies. As she moved past competing, her fondness for horses continued as she enjoyed watching horse racing, especially the Triple Crown. She worked hard in the summer mowing, gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew. She was well known for her summer pool parties, large 4th of July parties, and 50’s music that could be heard most weekends in the summer.

In retirement, Carole and Bill relocated to Venice, FL and spent hours every day on the beach. They loved walking the beaches and listening to the waves crash, along with searching for shells and shark teeth with their daughters and grandchildren. Carole and Bill loved visitors and always had a seat on the lanai and a cold drink ready for a friend.

Carole will remain in the hearts of her husband of 54 years, Bill of Venice, FL; daughters, Annie (Pete) Tennant of Cottage Grove, MN, and Tammy (Jerry) McKenzie of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Missy (Dennis) Dahl, Jason Tennant, Gina Schurhamer (Mike Nielsen), Cody Tennant (Abi Lingwall), Mikey Schurhamer; Max McKenzie, Kaitlyn (Konnor) Merchak, and Rachel McKenzie; great-granddaughter, Hazel Dahl; siblings, Bea (Jack) O’Neill, John (Ann) Winterbauer, Dan Winterbauer (Mary Darow), Wanda Hanes, and Alvin (Cindy) Winterbauer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillian Winterbauer; brothers, David (stillborn) and Joe Winterbauer; and infant granddaughter, Kristi Schurhamer.

A memorial service to celebrate Carole’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 (visitation 2-4 p.m.) at the Bethel Lutheran Church-Highlands Campus, 504 Frontage Road, Hudson, WI 54016. Carole’s memorial service will be livestreamed through the Bethel Lutheran Church YouTube page. Following the service, a meal will be served at the church for family and friends.
