Catherine (Kinney) Fuchs passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was 94 years young.
Kay was born on May 4, 1930, in Avoca, Minnesota to James and Mary (Mensen) Kinney. One of 12 children and the oldest daughter, Kay was always helping her siblings on the family farm.
According to her soon to be husband, Raymond “Ray” Fuchs, their love was predestined– or at least when Ray saw her walking down the street in their community and proclaimed that she would be his wife one day. On October 6, 1949m, they were united in marriage and, for 58 years, they celebrated, danced, and laughed their way through life together. Her commitment to family was fervently demonstrated in raising four children.
Kay enjoyed traveling and learning about her Irish history and life in other countries. She shared her aptitude and enjoyment for rare garage sale finds, antiquing, the Minnesota Twins, tending her flower garden, cross -stitching, embroidery, and card games with her friends and family. Kay’s other handiwork included thoughtfully crafting graduation quilts for each grandchild.
She served her community by working first as a nurses’ aid and then working as a surgical tech in Sandstone and Mora, Minnesota, and Hudson, Wisconsin — from where she retired. Kay was also an active member of ST. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake Saint Croix Beach, Minnesota — including serving on the quilting circle famous for recycling scrap materials into masterpiece “ugly” quilts, as a Eucharist Minister, and as a money counter.
