Catherine ‘Katie’ Bauer

Mrs. Catherine “Katie” Carola Bauer, beloved wife of Daniel A. Bauer, died peacefully on November 15, 2017 at Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI. The deceased was, before her marriage, Miss Catherine C. Bauman, born in Delano, Woodland Township, Wright County, Minnesota, on September 28, 1926. She was the second oldest of thirteen children. Catherine attended school in Delano and the College of Saint Catherine before she married Daniel A. Bauer of St. Paul, MN, in Saint Peter Catholic Church of Delano, MN, on September 14, 1946.

While raising her family, she found the time and energy to return to school and complete training as a Licensed Practical Nurse, after which she was employed at the Hudson Hospital and Clinic and later the Afton Road Clinic.

She was a woman of devoted Christian spirit and allowed but three matters to occupy her mind – her family, her home, and her church. To these three things, she devoted her time and energy. Her home was always brightened by her happy smiles, her delicious cooking and baking, and her exceptional hospitality. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, through her energy and untiring labors in their behalf, were given all the advantages and values of education and Christian charity. As a neighbor, she was outgoing, kind, and ever ready to do all in her power to assist those in need.

Catherine and Daniel loved their spacious lawn, flower beds and vegetable garden. At any time in the spring, summer, or fall they could be found working together in their garden or beautiful flower beds. Catherine often hosted garden parties for their many friends that featured the bounty of her labor. Her canned jams, jellies, and fruit were often gifted at birthdays and the holiday season, and were always thankfully received.

Daniel and Catherine’s first home was in Lake Saint Croix Beach, MN, where they were early parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. They repaired to Hudson, WI, in 1959 and became parishioners of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Both parishes realized many helps over the years from her always charitable heart.

No words can picture the sorrow which clouds the once happy family made desolate by her passing. No sympathies can heal the wound of the heartbroken family now without the assistance of the one who seemed to know just what to do to be the most help to those she loved. Only the thought that she will now reap the harvest she had so well sown can give them comfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Catherine Bauman; her loving husband, Daniel; her brothers, Clarence, Joseph, and John; and her sister, Dorothy Jean Griep. She leaves seven children, Timothy (Joyce) Bauer of Hudson, Terrance (Debby) Bauer of Scottsdale, AZ, Theodore (Sally) Bauer of Balsam Lake, Daniel (Diane) Bauer of Hudson, Gregory (Danna) Bauer of Hudson, Anthony (Rhonda) Bauer of Hudson, and Mary Catherine (James) Nasvik of Savage, MN; as well as 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-grandchild to mourn her demise.

Celebration of Life arrangements are being coordinated by O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson, WI, with a visitation on Sunday, November 19 from 4:00-6:00PM at O’Connell’s. Mass of Christian Burial will on Monday, November 20 at 11:00AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hudson, WI. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow. The family requests memorials be given to St. Patrick School of Hudson.
