Catherine L. Johnson

Catherine L. Johnson, age 77 of Dresser, WI, formerly of Hudson, passed away January 6, 2018 at Amery Assisted Living. Catherine was born April 21, 1940 in River Falls, WI to Judge Robert and Marion (Kneen) Varnum. She graduated from Hudson High School, the Class of 1958. She went on to further her education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, earning a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy. She later earned her Masters degree at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Catherine was united in marriage to Floyd Johnson on July 29, 1967. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Stephen; along with Floyd’s sons, Floyd R. and Ross.

Catherine was compassionate and patient, and was a prideful teacher and occupational therapist for many years. After her retirement, Catherine’s gracious heart found her working part time with special needs children.

Outside of her work, Catherine appreciated her time being outdoors. She enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, and figure skating. Catherine took great pride and was meticulous in her flower and vegetable gardens, and delighted in bird watching. She was also fond of reading, bowling, playing bridge, and allowing time for a good nap. Catherine treasured her family, and loved making the holidays formal and special for those she loved. Catherine cherished the many friendships made as member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Catherine will remain in the hearts of her sons, Stephen “Pete” Johnson, Floyd R. Johnson, Ross M. Johnson; grandchildren, Aaron, Cameron and Cassidy Johnson; sister, Eleanor (Jerry) Tulgren; special niece, Mary Tulgren; and nephew, Robert (Heidi) Tulgren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; and her parents.

A short Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, followed by a gathering of family and friends until 1:00 p.m. all at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Memorial are preferred to donor’s choice.

The Johnson family wishes to thank the caring staff at Amery Memory Care for the compassion and loving care they provided to Catherine.
