Charles Edward “Ed” Hanson, 92, of River Falls, WI, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born on September 19, 1922, on the family homestead, the son of the late Leslie and Maggie (Taylor) Hanson. On August 17, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Aasterud at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville, WI. The couple were life-long farmers in the Town of River Falls on the homestead that was established in 1901. Betty preceded Ed in death on February 18, 2012.
Ed was a passionate Steward of the Land, with a firm belief that one takes care of the land and the land will take care of many. He dedicated his life to the preservation of productive farmlands and served on numerous boards and committees that championed this fundamental fact. He served the Town of River Falls from 1953-2014, Production Credit Association loan board for 24 years, the Mid-American Dairymen national board, Equity Co-op board, Pierce County board of appeals, to name a few. Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church in River Falls.
Those Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory include four children, Charles “Charley” Hanson, Peter Hanson, Siri (Greg) Smith and Paul (LeAnn) Hanson all of River Falls; a son-in-law, Scott (Carol) Teigen of Glenwood City, WI; four grandchildren, Travis Teigen and Brian (Laura) Teigen both of Glenwood City, Cole Hanson and Shelby Hanson both of River Falls; two great grandchildren, Oslo Teigen and Odin Teigen, both of Glenwood City; sister, Jean Ann Glasbrenner of River Falls; brother, John (Alice) Hanson of River Falls; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, Ed is preceded in death by a daughter Kristi Ann Teigen and brother-in-law, John Glasbrenner.
Funeral services for Ed will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in River Falls, WI. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls.
The Hanson family will greet relatives and friends at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls, on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
