Charles Herbert Henderson, age 91 of Baldwin, Wisconsin, died on September 12 at the Baldwin Care Center. Born in Larimore, North Dakota on July 6, 1923, Herb was the son of Rev. Charles Herbert Henderson, Sr. and Agnes (Harrison) Henderson. In 1925 they moved to Phillips, Wisconsin, where they lived until he was in the 10th grade. In 1938, the family moved to South Range, just outside of Superior, Wisconsin where he finished his sophomore year and then attended Superior East High School, graduating in 1941. He attended Superior State College and was then employed by the National Bank of Commerce in Superior where he met his wife, Pearl Olson. They fell in love and were married September 22, 1945. In December of that year, Herb became employed in Baldwin and moved there to work at the First National Bank where he remained for 39 years. In 1985 he bought the insurance agency from the bank and operated this business until he sold it in 1988 to the Baldwin Insurance Agency; he retired shortly after.

Herb participated actively in the Presbyterian Church wherever he lived. He began singing in the church choir as a teenager and provided Sunday School leadership as a young adult.  Herb served frequently on the boards of Elders, Deacons and Trustees, representing the local church as a delegate to the Chippewa and Twin Cities Area Presbytery.  He served as Clerk of Session for many years and was Financial Secretary of the First United Presbyterian Church until May of 2011.

In 1970, he and Pearl joined the Gideon’s International. Herb served in various offices, including State President. He received the St. Croix County 2013 Volunteer of the Year award for his ministry with the Gideon’s to local jails in Ellsworth and Hudson.

He was a leader in the Boy Scouts, enjoyed fishing and working on the lawn and garden. Later, he became involved in woodcarving and brought much of his work to the Baldwin Care Center where the residents appreciated his wood craftsmanship.

He is preceded in death by his wife Pearl, his father, mother, and brother Henry and oldest son Kenneth.

Herb will be remembered by his children Mary (Marcus) Korth of Seattle, Washington, Mark (Linda) Henderson of Blaine, Minnesota, David (Linda) Henderson of Middleton, Connecticut; eight grandchildren, Kelsey Koestler, Christina Korth, Alyssa Korth, Theresa Henderson, Brady Henderson, Travis Henderson, Andrea Henderson, and Benjamin Henderson, two great-grandchildren; Pearl’s two sisters, Violet Clark of Superior, and Grace Ulvi of Cloquet, Minnesota, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday September 17 at the Christian Reformed Church in Baldwin with Pastor Anson Veenstra officiating. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Brady Henderson, Travis Henderson, Dan Hubbard, Tom Langer, Dan Hanson, and Don Nelson. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 16 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Memorials are preferred to Gideon’s International.
