Clarence Somsen

Clarence James Somsen “Click”, age 95, of Baldwin, Wisconsin, died on February 17, 2012 at his home. Click was born on December 28, 1916 to Garrett and Minnie (Wubbles) Somsen in Baldwin. He grew up on the family farm in Baldwin where he worked with his father. on September 21, 1943, he married La Verne Voskuil at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin, and shortly after the marriage, Click and La Verne moved into the city of Baldwin. Click began working as a turbine mechanic for Dairyland Power. He would eventually work for the St. Croix Consumers Co-op as an auto mechanic and bottle gas deliverer. After retiring from the Co-op, Click enjoyed life with his family and La Verne by his side. Sadly, La Verne died in 1995 and Click remained at their home until his passing.

Click was a hard-working man who led by example. He was a fan of polkas and waltzes and loved taking La Verne out on the dance floor. He was happiest in the outdoors, enjoyed fishing on the lakes and spent many years with his family at Camp Brigadoon in Cumberland, WI on Beaver Dam Lake. He was a deer hunter and dutifully tended to his vegetable garden. One of his favorite parts about being outdoors was that “the phone never rings out there.” He also enjoyed time with friends and was always up for a game of cards – either 500 or euchre. His greatest joy was to share his hobbies and activities with his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Click is survived by: his son, Roger (Sandra) Somsen of Baldwin, grandchildren, Ronald Somsen, Paulette (Shawn) Frasl both of Baldwin, great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Carley, Regan and Aaron, great-great-grandchild, Erika, several nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, Laverne, sister Geraldine and brother, Melvin.

Funeral services for Click will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin. Pastor Tim Sluiter will be officiating. A visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to the service and held at the church. Burial will follow services at the Baldwin Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to dress casual as Click would have wanted everyone to dress comfortably. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Funeral Home – Baldwin Chapel. 715-684-3434
