Clarence Vernon ‘Vern’ Haas

Clarence Vernon “Vern” Haas, age 80 of Roberts WI, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. Vern was born on December 26, 1935 in Saint Paul MN to parents Clarence Vernon Anderson and Beatrice (nee Waldo) Haas. After graduating high school in St. Paul, Vern attended Voc-Tech in St. Paul before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Vern would proudly serve his country in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

After returning from Vietnam, Vern put time in the saddle as a working cowboy on ranches in Texas and New Mexico. Following that, Vern worked for Ecolab, the J.R. Ranch, and also ran his own small engine repair. Vern had a welcoming and friendly nature, and truly enjoyed being the guy who would greet all the shoppers at the Hudson Wal-Mart. Outside of work, Vern loved to fish! He loved the outdoors, and camping, trail riding with horses, reading Western novels, and watching Western movies. Vern was a true animal lover, who also loved sports, especially cheering for the Minnesota Wild, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Golden Gophers. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vern is survived by his friend and wife of 33 years, Carol; his children; three generations of grandchildren; the DeWitte family; his cats, Pumpkin and Dewey; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; a daughter; and father-in-law, Ken DeWitte.

A Memorial Service honoring the life of Vern Haas will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th Street S. in Hudson WI, with Pastor Tim Booth officiating. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be held, and military honors will be provided. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725
