Cynthia Sue (Cindy) Donnelly, of Ellsworth passed away peacefully on Monday May 15, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids, MN. Cindy was born August 6, 1957, in Plum City, WI to Robert and Kathleen (Langer) Donnelly.  She was a model student graduating in the top 10 of the Ellsworth High School class of 1975. Being selected prom queen was one of her fondest high school memories.   Cindy furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls graduating with a degree in Elementary Education.  After teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School in Prescott for a short time, she determined caring for people rather than teaching them was her passion.  Cindy earned her nursing degree and began a career in health care that spanned 30 years.  The majority of her career was with the Minneapolis Veterans Administration.  She became friends with the veterans she cared for and loved listening to their life stories.  When her health prevented her from continuing in this role, she moved back to Ellsworth to help her parents.  Cindy’s care for her parents was invaluable to her family, likely adding several years to their lives by allowing her dad to stay at home as his health declined while also supporting her mother

Cindy had a big heart which was apparent to everyone she came in contact with.  She treated her nieces and nephews as her own and never missed a birthday or Christmas present.  She had strong faith and was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church.  She was a regular at weekday masses prior to COVID enjoying the fellowship of those in attendance.  She served as a pen pal to several students of St. Francis school and looked forward to receiving and responding to their letters.  Cindy was a dedicated Minnesota sports fan rooting for the Twins and Vikings contrary to rest of the family who were primarily Brewers and Packers fans.  This created a friendly rivalry on game days.

Cindy is survived by her mother Kathleen, her five siblings: Dan (Denise) Donnelly, Timothy (Lori) Donnelly, Karen (Ron) Webster, Scott (Linda) Donnelly, and Rick (Tacy) Donnelly; her nieces and nephews:  Shannon and Mitchell Donnelly, Eric (Shannon) Donnelly, Tara (Dave) Simons, Andrea (Randy) Volkel, Bradley (Tina) Webster, Kellie (Dwayne) Lowman, and Matthew Webster, Derek, Alex and Hunter Donnelly, and Zackary and Brady Donnelly.  She is further survived by her aunts and uncles: Robert (Alicia) Langer, Paulette (Dave) Orf, Jean Brickner, and Joan (Dennis) Wittenberg.   She was preceded in death by her father Bob Donnelly, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Ellsworth Health Center and Mercy Hospital for the excellent care Cindy received in her time at those facilities.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 PM., Friday May 26, 2023, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ellsworth, WI. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM prior to the mass.  To watch Mass please follow this link –>https://youtube.com/live/CYq7AgrrvQ0?feature=share  Memorials left to the discretion of the family will be donated to St. Francis School which held a special place in Cindy’s heart.

Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Ellsworth.
