Dallas McGinley

Dallas Virgil McGinley, age 80, formerly of Hudson, WI, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the Charter House Assisted Living Community in Rochester, MN. Dallas was born December 7, 1931 in Hammond, WI to parents Virgil and Gladys (Swenson) McGinley. He was a graduate of Hudson High School with the Class of 1949. He proudly served his country in the US Navy for 4 years after high school. He was united in marriage to Shirley Place on October 24, 1959 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville, WI. Their union in marriage was blessed with two sons, Michael and Steven.

Dallas worked as an Engineering Standards Draftsman for the 3M Company, retiring in 1991. Outside of work, Dallas loved being outdoors. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, landscaping, camping, canoeing, walking and photography. He and his wife were fortunate to be able to travel and share many joys in life. After retirement, he and Shirley moved to rural Birchwood, where Dallas did much of the construction and finish work on their retirement home. He lovingly cared for his wife Shirley during her ten year battle with cancer. Shirley died in 2000. After Shirley’s death, Dallas moved to River Falls. In the last year of his life, he moved to the Charter House Assisted Living Community in Rochester to be closer to family. Dallas was a loving husband and father, and a truly devoted grandfather to his five grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

Dallas was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his brother, Daryl McGinley; sister, Shirley Johnson; and his parents. He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Kathi) McGinley of Fort Collins CO, and Steven (Lisa) McGinley of St. Charles MN; his five grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, Sean, Iris, and Leo; and his brother, Don McGinley of Hudson.

Funeral Services for Dallas will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Ezekiel Lutheran Church, 202 South 2nd Street in River Falls, with Pastor Mark Hall officiating. Burial will take place at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church, and also from 4:00-7:00PM on Friday evening at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
