Daniel ‘Dan’ Struemke

Daniel J. Struemke age 67 of Hudson died Friday October 5th, 2018 at his residence. Dan was born January 23, 1951 in Hudson, the son of Lyle and Patricia Struemke. Being raised in Hudson, he graduated from Hudson High in the class of ‘69. He would enlist in the armed forces serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Dan worked for the railroad his entire adult life. A switchman in the days for Chicago Northwestern, he retired as conductor after thirty-five fulfilled years. Dan was an avid sports fan. He cheered his beloved Packers, whether Ray Nitchke or Aaron Rodgers teams. Wisconsin spirit was also extended to the Brewers and Badgers. But his greatest tranquility came from being on water. Earlier in life water skiing or getting a line wet in a boat or ice fishing gave him great pleasure. Uncle Dan was always game for a good time with his nieces and nephews. To him, they were bonus kids, which brought out ‘the kid’ in him. Fireworks to potato guns, nothing was off the table when spending time with family. A gifted craftsman, he was always available to family and friends as he could troubleshoot most anything. Besides family, he loved his country and taking care of the cemetery for Memorial Day.

He will live on in the hearts of his sisters, Rene (Steve) Sandburg of Hudson, Teri (Rod) Brooks of Hudson; nieces and nephews, Ann (Keith) Carter, Mike Struemke, Chris (Amy) Brooks, Denise (Brent) Anderson, Dan Brooks, Stacy (Eric) Lytle, Tony (Leah) Brooks; brother-in-heart, Keith (Kathy) Hussey and their children, Ben (Courtney) Hussey and Randi Hussey; as well as many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven.

A Celebration of Life for Dan will be Thursday, October 11 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Interment will be private. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Funeral services and cremation entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory.
