Darrel John Luebke, of Hudson, WI, passed away at Hammond Health Services on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the age of 93 after a brave battle with heart disease and COPD.
Darrel was born in Pelican Lake, WI on November 14, 1926. He grew up in Hudson, WI and graduated from Hudson High School in 1944 where he lettered in boxing all four years. He joined the Navy in August of 1944 and was discharged in October of 1947. After being discharged from the Navy, Darrel joined the Wisconsin National Guard and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the National Guard after 20-plus years of military service, and was very proud to have been able to serve his country. Darrel was employed at Andersen Corporation for 39 years, and retired in 1988.
Darrel married Dorothy Jane Guith of Hudson, WI on October 25, 1950. They were married for 57 years and had three children, Kent, Sherry and Jodi. Throughout his life, Darrel enjoyed taking care of family (including pets), home and yard; spending time in Northern Wisconsin with family and friends; spending time with his son at his son’s cabin in Dairyland, WI; deer hunting with his son, brothers, nephews, and friends; reading; grilling and baking. When their grandsons were young, Darrel and Dorothy enjoyed watching their baseball games and school programs.
Darrel was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Guith) Luebke; son Kent Luebke; parents Alvin and Celestine (Frey) Luebke; siblings and their spouses, Kenneth (Bernie) Luebke, Roger (Kitty) Luebke, and Gretchen (Robert) Kreuger. He is survived by daughters, Jodi Luebke, and Sherry (Ronald) Thompson; grandsons, Ryan Thompson, Scott Thompson, and Jason Thompson; pets, Autumn and Gidget; and many nephews and nieces.
