John David “Dave” Nelson, age 88 of River Falls, WI, passed away September 9, 2019 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Dave was born October 22, 1930 in Sidney, MT to Evlad and Erika (Holmgren) Nelson. He graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul, the Class of 1949. Dave proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His life was blessed with two sons, Curtis and Kenneth. Dave worked in Accounts Receivable as a Credit Manager for Hyman Freightways, until his retirement in 1992. He was united in marriage to Colleen Walsh Joseph on December 14, 1991. To their union, Dave gained seven stepchildren.

Dave had a gracious heart and enjoyed volunteering his time at the River Falls Community Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, and Turningpoint. He was a member of the Fletcher-Pechacek American Legion Post 121 of River Falls. Dave and Colleen treasured their time in sharing the hobby of square dancing together. They were fortunate to share many travels together in retirement, with Switzerland, Ireland, and the Rhine River Cruise being a few of their favorite memories.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Colleen; children, Curtis (Annette) Nelson and Kenneth (Anita) Nelson; step-children: Rocky (Sandy) Joseph, Mike (Wende) Joseph, Matt Joseph, Michele (B Jay) Inserra, Tony (Gabby) Joseph, Jim (Carrie) Joseph, and Molly (Greg) Galles; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evald and Erika Nelson; and brothers, Gene and Leon Nelson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with a 10:30 AM Prayer Service, Friday, September 13, 2019 at Comforts of Home, 2348 Aurora Circle, River Falls, with Fr. Gerald Harris officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Turningpoint for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence.
