David "Dave" Hohler, a wonderful human with an endless love for nature and the natural world, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, after a lung cancer diagnosis in February 2025 followed by a stroke April 12th. Throughout his journey, Dave remained the goofball, kind soul, and loving man everyone knew him to be, bringing joy and light to all those around him.
Born on January 23, 1947, to Iva and Henry Hohler in Amery, Wisconsin, Dave graduated from Hudson High School. He went on to work at Bass Lake Cheese Factory, Dairy Queen, and spent over 43 years at Andersen Windows in Bayport, MN, where he wore many hats but was most proud of his work as a mechanic. Dave loved tinkering, building, and fixing — he could often be found working on a new project, big or small, always with a cheerful heart and a smile.
Dave was married to Jayne, and together they had a daughter, Kimberly. Later, he met his beloved wife, Lynn Colburn, and welcomed her two daughters, Amy and Stacey, to his family. Lynn and Dave shared a loving relationship since 2002.
Dave’s spirit will live on through his daughter Kimberly, stepdaughters Amy (Mike) and Stacey (Shawn), and his nephew, Jeremy Hohler (Jess), who was like a son to him. He was also the proud grandfather to Bailey, Kali (Michael), Lily (Mason), Elliott, Teagan, Stella, Austin, Layla, and great-grandchildren Bella and Gianna, with another great-grandchild expected in June. Dave cherished every moment with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking pride in each new life his family welcomed.
He is also survived by his siblings Randy, Steve, and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were like family. Dave was preceded in death by his sister Linda as well as both parents.
A celebration of Dave’s beautiful life will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 11am with a service to follow at 2pm.
Though Dave is no longer with us, his spirit — his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering acceptance of others — will live on in every act of goodness we share. To know Dave was to experience unconditional love, constant support, and the pure joy of being around a truly wonderful human.
