David A Knutson, age 73, of Hudson, WI, died on July 13, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. This comes after a short but courageous struggle with cancer. David was born on January 1, 1939 to Henry and Lorinda (Strohbeen) Knutson in Amery, Wisconsin. The youngest of six children, he grew up in Amery and graduated with Amery High School’s class of 1957. He began work at 3M right out of high school and then worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA. It was in 1961 that he joined the US Army, which included time served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1964 and returned home to begin a 37 year career at 3M. In 1965, David was introduced to Bonnie Larson by her brother while on a night out at Howie’s Bar. The introduction was a success and resulted in their marriage on October 7, 1967 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The newly formed Knutson family made the Twin Cities their home for 33 years before settling in Hudson, Wisconsin. In 1996 David started enjoying his retirement from 3M with Bonnie, their family and many friends.
David had many hobbies and interests. He was a lifetime member of the 3M Trap and Skeet Club where he competed with his 10-man team. At home he enjoyed spending time on the computer as well as tinkering in his shop on wood projects. Always with the mechanical mind, he was also able to repair most anything, fashioning replacement parts. Special times with Bonnie were spent traveling to Seattle to visit family. The two also enjoyed more local trips to Home Depot, Menards, and even just out to lunch or dinner.
David is survived by his; wife of 44 years, Bonnie; sisters, Margaret Gibson of Washington State, Marsena Gardiner of Seattle, WA, and Gerene (Vernon) Moen of Prairie Farm, WI; brother, Roger (Delores) Knutson of Amery, WI; Brothers-In-Law, Dennis (Mary Jayne) Larson of Burnsville, MN and Rodney (Diane) Larson of Fort Meyers, Florida and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
David is preceded in death by his; parents, Henry and Lorinda Knutson and brother, Henry Knutson Jr.
A Memorial Celebration of David’s life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Downtown Hudson, WI. A visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the church as well as from 4-7pm on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI. Memorials Donated will be given to the American Cancer Society and the Bethel Lutheran Church.
