David A Sobottka

David Allen Sobottka Sr, age 79, of Roberts, WI, died on October 9, 2011 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center.
David was born on March 22, 1932 to Henry and Freida (Kempf) Sobottka in Plum City, WI. The fifth of nine children, David grew up on his family farm in Plum City. He would graduate from Ellsworth High School with the class of 1950. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War earning the rank of Corporal. In 1959, David was united in marriage to Nancy Kitch. The marriage would be blessed with three children, Christopher, Jeanne, and David Jr. This marriage would dissolve and David would later meet Velmie Anderson. David and Velmie would marry in April of 1981 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson, Wisconsin. The two would later add adopted daughter, Monica to the family. David worked for Minnesota Fence and Ironworks in Eagan, MN, Rapid Service Oil in River Falls, WI and then later for Justman Freight in Rosemount, MN. He was an active man, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan and frequently watched games with friends and family. David was a member of the Roberts Lions and twice served as Commander of the Hudson VFW Post #2115, twice receiving the All-State Commander Award for his post involvement. He was also a very active member of Luther Memorial Church in River Falls, serving on several committees.
David is survived by his family. This includes; wife, Velmie (Anderson) Sobottka of Roberts, WI; children, Christopher (Cheryl) Sobottka of Amery, WI, Jeanne (Mike Kongshaug) Sobottka of River Falls, WI, David Sobottka Jr of Los Angeles, CA, and Monica (Phillip) Gehrman of Menomonie, WI; step-children, Brian “Skunk” Anderson of Baldwin, WI, Julie Conley of New Richmond, WI, Shelly (Joe) Newton of Baldwin, WI; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, brothers, and many other relatives and friends.
David is preceded in death by; his parents, Henry and Freida (Kempf) Sobottka; step-father, Earl Wider; and step-son, Dan Anderson.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Luther Memorial Church in River Falls, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place from 10am to time of service at the church. Burial will be held privately at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Baldwin, WI.
