David Glasspoole

David Wendell Glasspoole, age 75, of Hudson, WI, died peacefully Friday, June 19, 2015 at his residence, following a hard fought battle with cancer.

David was born on November 1, 1939 in Eau Claire, WI, the son of Wendell and Kathryn (Werlein) Glasspoole. He attended elementary school in Mondovi prior to moving to Wabasha where he graduated from St. Felix High School. He would further his education at St. Mary’s in Winona receiving his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology. On December 21, 1974, he was united in marriage to Eileen Ann Zelenka at her parent’s house in New Prague, MN. He began a career as a chemist for 3M and Nalco Chemical before making a vocational change. He began working with his hands as a dry wall contractor, which in turn became carpentry and finally woodworking. To say he was gifted in woodworking would be an understatement. He built several homes for his family and others. The house he lived in and died in was built by him brick by brick.

David loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. He cherished time spent in Bible Studies, on church functions, or mission trips to Africa. He found it most rewarding giving back to others.

He loved the outdoors fishing for the trophy fish in Canada, hunting the elusive turkey, or spending time with family and friends deer hunting. He was known as eagle eye as he was spot on with a shotgun or bow. He was an avid Minnesota Gopher fan with season tickets to basketball and football. He will be ecumenically remembered as a true Christian who was an adventurer who would try anything.

He will remain in the hearts of his loving wife of 41 years, Eileen; children: Scott (Shelley) Glasspoole of Prescott, WI, Mark Glasspoole of Winona, MN, Wendy Brown of Bemidji, MN, Chris (Gina) Glasspoole of Winona, MN, Brad Glasspoole of Anchorage, AK, and Leah (Steve Knutson) Glasspoole of Hudson, WI; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister Karol Sharp of Richmond, VA, and brother Dan (Lois) Glasspoole of Winona. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith; and infant daughter, Bethany.

A Memorial service for David will be 11AM Monday, June 29th at Harvestime Outreach Church, 498 Jacobs Lane, Hudson. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28th from 4pm to 7pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson as well as one hour prior to the service at church Monday morning.

Memorials are preferred to Harvestime Outreach Church and will be used to further David’s passion for mission work in Africa.
