David Janisch

David Clair Janisch, age 74, of Ellsworth, WI, passed away December 9, 2020 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN after complications arising from a stroke/Covid-19 infection.  David was born July 25, 1946 to Clair and Anna (Kordosky) Janisch.  He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1964 and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.  After College he worked for a number of years as a Regional Sales Director for Purina, traveling across many States before taking over his parent’s family farm.  On April 18, 1977, David was united in marriage to Deborah Peterson.  Their lives were blessed with five children: Joseph, Michael, David, Marie and Karen, and his family became the pillar of his life.  He also took great pride in managing the family dairy farm, which was originally established in 1872.  In addition, he ran a feed business, Janisch Farm Sales, for many years connecting and serving hundreds of farmers throughout the Ellsworth area.

David was a hard worker with a heart of gold and an eccentric personality, leaving a unique and lasting impression on those around him.  He always uplifted his family, friends and new people he met, even though he had experienced some great hardships in life.  He loved learning about the world and engaging with others; a real people person.  David had a great sense of humor and delighted in being a jokester, especially with his children and grandchildren whom he adored.  He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Francis Church in Ellsworth, WI

David will remain in the hearts of his children: Michael (Sarah) Janisch of London, UK, Marie (Josh) Cady of Ellsworth and Karen (Joseph) Roesler of Hager City; grandchildren: Eliza and Florence Janisch, Genevieve and Nathan Cady, Trinity, Kyra and Kayda Roesler, Miah, Lillianna, Austin and Brevick Janisch; siblings: Marlene (Norman) Holmstadt of Plum City, WI, Phyllis (Todd) Severud of Rice Lake, WI, and Barbara (Jerry) Erickson of LaCrosse, WI; daughter-in-law: Gina Janisch; niece: Amy Nelson; nephews: Mark & Chris Erickson and Craig Severud; along with many other dear relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, David and Joseph; his brother, Paul Janisch; and his parents, Clair and Anna Janisch.

A Visitation (masks and social distancing required) will take place 4:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, December 17, 2020 at O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 130 N Grant St., Ellsworth.  A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Jerzy Rebacz officiating.  Interment will take place at Lost Creek Cemetery.  Pallbearers assisting with the services will be Michael Janisch, Josh Cady, Joe Roesler, Butch Schladweiler, Todd Severud, Eddie Pasch, Rob Fenske and Norman Holmstadt.

Memorials in David’s memory may be directed to The Progressive Agricultural Foundation which provides education, training and resources to make farm, ranch and rural life safer and healthier for their communities.  As a Father who lost a child in a farm accident, this cause was very dear to David’s heart.

Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home of Ellsworth (715) 273-4421. www.oconnellfuneralservices.com
