David Mark Johnson, a pillar of strength, kindness, and devotion, peacefully departed this life on October 2, 2023, at the age of 62, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on March 12, 1961, to Clifton and Delores (Pace) Johnson.
Dave’s early years saw him graduate from Sibley High School in West St. Paul in 1979, setting the foundation for a future characterized by dedication and hard work. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a self-employed businessman, where he found success as the owner and operator of several Ace Hardware stores in the metropolitan area.
On June 16, 1990, Dave united in matrimony with the love of his life, Kelly. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter, raising two daughters, Krystina and Jacqui. Dave’s unwavering commitment to his family was evident in his everyday actions, offering a steady and supportive presence to those who meant the most to him.
A man of deep faith, Dave was a cherished member of Joy Lutheran Church in Prescott. He actively participated in various roles within the church community, including serving on the pastoral council and church council. His service to the church mirrored his selflessness and devotion to helping others.
Dave’s love for the water, particularly boating, was a passion he shared with his family. His cherished vessels, the “Johnson & Johnson” and “Northern Comfort,” served as the backdrop for countless treasured moments on the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers. Over the years, they explored the river’s beauty during summers and, in the last decade, wintered on the “Johnson & Johnson” in sunny Florida.
In addition to his boating adventures, Dave was an esteemed member of the Prescott Navy, a community group dedicated to safeguarding the local stretch of the river, often with a sense of playful mystery about the perceived threats. His calm and supportive presence made him an invaluable asset to the group, always ready to lend a hand.
Dave’s life epitomized selflessness, unending happiness, and the unwavering support he extended to those in need. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, an enduring gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Ann Johnson, and their cherished daughters, Krystina (Nick Perricelli) Johnson, and Jacqui (Tyler Gross) Johnson. He is also survived by their granddaughter, Sienna Perricelli, his mother, Hap Johnson, his sister, Debbie Merritt, and his mother-in-law, Ginger Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cliff Johnson, father-in-law, Curt Johnson, step mother, Laura Johnson, and half-brother, Cliff Jr. Johnson.
A memorial service celebrating Dave’s remarkable life will take place at The Old Ptacek’s Event Center in Prescott, Wisconsin, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 4:00pm. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A Celebration of Life will follow the service from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
Dave’s presence in our lives will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering positivity will endure for generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts.

Kelly and the girls
We are so sorry to hear the passing of Dave. He was very special and we always enjoyed his (and your) company at morning coffee and evening docktails at the Legacy. We are out of town so will not be able to attend the celebration which would have otherwise.

I am very sorry Kelly for your family loss. The love that you shared with Dave priceless. Any of us knowing you knew the family love for each other daughters and their families.
A wonderful tribute to a life well lived and well loved. While I never met Dave, I felt that I knew him through the loving words of my “work out” friend, Kelly. I knew by the way she always spoke of him that he was a special man— caring and devoted, hard working and FUN. That he was a loving and thoughtful husband and a playful and protective father. He will be missed by all who knew him and those who knew of him- like me.
Dear Kelly, Krystina and Jacqui,
Our hearts go out to each of you. We were shocked and deeply saddened when we learned of Dave’s passing. Dave was such a kind person. He could make anyone feel comfortable in his presence.
What was truly noticeable was his love for you all. He wanted you all to feel his love and to be happy. It was always apparent in your radiant smiles that he succeeded in doing that. He was also happy to see his daughters happily married to wonderful men. We’re so happy that he was able to meet little Sienna!
Even though a piece of your hearts went with him, always remember that he will continue to live on through you all.
May God give you the all love and strength that you will need during this difficult time.
With all our love and prayers,
Randy and Kathy Dwelly
