Delores Orf, age 93 of Hudson, died Wednesday, August 29th, 2018 at the Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Hudson. Delores was born on September 19, 1924 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin; the daughter of Haven and Lena Nelson. She was one of eight children. She attended school in Buffalo County before the family moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It was in Eau Claire where she worked at the defense plant during World War II. On June 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Adam Orf in Eau Claire. They settled in Hudson. They had three children: David, Nancy and Edy. She worked at the Hudson Hotel, St. Croix Manufacturing in Bayport and Smead’s in Stillwater. It was at the Hudson Hotel where she was intrigued by this industry. Having an entrepreneurial drive, she had a vision of owning their own business. From 1962 to1970 she and Adam owned and operated the David Motel in Ellsworth. They shared eight successful years operating the motel before they would sell the business. After moving back to Hudson, she worked Hudson Hospital as a cook.
Delores enjoyed tending to her family. She loved baking, cooking, and everything else that came with being a homemaker. Some of her favorite hobbies were: knitting, crocheting, reading and most of all, oil painting. She was proud of her paintings and even more so to share them with her family and friends. She and Adam also enjoyed their time together with their motor home and traveling. Delores was never able to finish high school, but that gave her a great drive to encourage her family to get a college degree. One of her proudest accomplishments was all of her children and grandchildren attended college and received degrees.
Delores is survived by her children, Dave (Polly) Orf of Hudson, Nancy (David) Johnson of Hager City, Edy (Tom) Bies of Hudson; six grandchildren, Nick (Kim) Orf, Suzie (Bob) Smith, Wendy (John) Bornholdt, Jennifer (Eric) Busch, Paul (David) Bies, Kelly Tuchscherer; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Grace (Steve) Govin, Muriel Kolstad, Alice Lovgren; and many nieces and nephews. Delores is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adam; two brothers; and one sister.
