Dennis H Doonan

Dennis Hugh Doonan, age 70, of Stillwater, Minnesota, died on the evening of March 17, 2012 at his home in Stillwater. Dennis was born on August 7, 1941 to Hugh Doonan Jr. and Beatrice Larsen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in Cumberland, WI but moved to Hudson, WI during high school, graduating from Hudson High School in 1959. After graduation, Dennis attended school at UW-River Falls and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He completed some post-grad work before enrolling in the National Guard. He then pursued a career in computer sales and management. Along the way, he started a number of other small businesses, including the Valley House Restaurant in Hudson, WI. He retired in 2001 to enjoy a life of golf, gardening, cooking, baking and fishing. One of his favorite activities was giving away his fruit and vegetables, and plates of cookies and truffles at Christmastime.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gross of Stillwater; sons, Steven, Jeffrey, and Charlie Doonan of Hudson; grandchildren, Abby, Haley, and Hunter; mother, Beatrice Larsen of Hudson, sister, Doreen (Randy) Deal of Hudson; step-siblings, Michael Larsen of St. Paul, MN, Larry (Jean) Larsen of Hudson, Jolene Stadsklev of Mound MN, Monica (Ron) Olson of La Crosse and James (Pat) Larsen of River Falls, WI; first wife Janice Doonan of Hudson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Doonan Jr and step-father, Joseph C. Larsen.

A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at 3:30pm on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home. A visitation and reception will take place after the service until 7pm. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory. 715.386.3725
