Dick E. Van Keuren, age 79 of River Falls, died at his daughter’s residence in Bloomington, Minnesota following a brief illness. Dick was born on April 7, 1936 in Fairchild, Wisconsin, the son of Harry and Cora (Hendricks) Van Keuren. He was raised in New Richmond graduating from New Richmond High School in the class of ’54. Following this, he enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He developed many friendships while serving on the USS Hancock to which he stays in contact with today.
In August 8, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ruth A. Parnell in New Richmond. Dick worked 33 years for Plastics Incorporated as a tool engineer.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved being outside. He always looked forward to his Canada trips to catch an elusive walleye or northern. Earlier, he thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with his horses as they would spend most weekends at horse shows. Ruth operated Canine Sports and Training in Hudson. He supported Ruth in her adventures and would frequently assist in her training. Among his favorites was his beloved dog Rip.
Dick is survived by his children, Deb (Chris) Cavanaugh of Bloomington and Mike (Connie) Van Keuren of Baldwin; grandchildren, Luke (Lindsay) Van Keuren of Amery and Jake Van Keuren of Baldwin; great grandaughter, Nella Jane; sister, Doris (Louie) Muench of Cumberland, sisters-in-law, Ruby of Oshkosh and Joyce of Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; and siblings, Bob and Jim.
A time for family and friends to gather to celebrate Dick’s life will be Monday, February 15th from 5 to 7PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Private interment. Memorials preferred.
