Don Springer

Don C. Springer, 73, of Hudson, WI, passed away surrounded by his family on August 26, 2015.

Don was born on June 5, 1942 in St. Paul, MN to Richard (Dick) and Ruth (Hart) Springer. He grew up in West St. Paul with his two siblings, and graduated from Sibley High School. Following his graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a Business degree.

In 1969, Don started Viking Electronics in the basement of his Hudson home, which flourished into a successful business in Hudson.

Don was an immensely adventurous man, with his rebellion starting early, never accepting, even as a kid, when something wouldn’t work. His curiosity and creativity afforded him the ability to be a true visionary in his trade. Don’s inventing and engineering talents, and his intense passion for electronics truly inspired those around him.

He was a part of many local organizations, sponsored many community events like the Hot Air Affair, and relished in being a social member of the Hudson community. He frequently enjoyed traveling to warm places and spending time at the beach and water, especially on the St. Croix River. Don had many friends and loved entertaining, as well as working on and building model trains.

Above everything, Don was incredibly proud of being a part of Viking Electronics, and was especially proud of everyone who worked there. Not an overly sentimental man in life, he held his sentiment and passion at his work place, treating the employees like his second family. His humble, kind, and soft-spoken nature made Don a true friend to everyone he met.

Don is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Tom (Stacy) Springer and Suzie (Mike Ahart) Springer-Hewitt; grandchildren: Nolan Hewitt, Cooper Springer, and Shea Hewitt; and siblings, Gail (David) McMillan and Bob Springer.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at The Bungalow Inn Restaurant & Bar, 1151 Rivercrest Rd. N, Lakeland, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.
