Donald G. Cobian, age 97 of Hager City, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2019 at Kinnic Health and Rehab in River Falls. Donald was born on February 8, 1922 in Trimbelle Township to parents George and Anna (Langer) Cobian. Donald attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1939. Donald met his bride, Dorothy Huppert, in grade school and they were united in marriage on September 16, 1947 at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church. Their union would be blessed with four children: Mary, Michael, James, and George, as well as two generations of grandchildren, and nearly 72 years of love and devotion. Family and farming were blessings from God, and Donald was blessed to be a life long farmer. He was a charter member of the Ellsworth High School F.F.A., won soil conservation service awards, and the Grassland Farmer Award.

Devoted in his faith, Donald was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church. He served on the parish school board and parish council. He was a past member of Knights of Columbus, Hudson Council, and present member of the St. Francis of Assisi Council in Ellsworth, totaling a span of 65 years.

When Donald wasn’t working on the family farm, he treasured his time watching Westerns, playing cards, especially a good game of euchre, and collecting model cars. In his later years, he enjoyed going to the farm as much as he could to visit his son and grandson. Donald was a devoted and loving husband, and was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Donald will remain in the hearts of his loving wife of nearly 72 years, Dorothy; his children, Mary (Phil) Betzel, Michael (Victoria) Cobian, James Cobian (Linda Matzek), and George (Karen) Cobian; 10 grandchildren: Christine (Cory) Larson, Sara (Tim) Noel, Anne (Justin) Kieffer, Jacqueline (Ryan) West, Daniel (Katy) Cobian, Alexander Cobian, Caleb and Emma Cobian, Richard (Teresa) Ohm, and Crystal (Justin) Hines; 17 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Ella Larson, Mara, Seth, and Gretchen Noel, Ben, Skyler, and Riley Kieffer, Beren West, Liv and Will Cobian, Josh (Ali) Hines, Colton and Michael Hines, Shaun, Brent, and Kimberly Ohm; sisters, Donna Lee Walker and Geraldine Bergman; along with many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lorraine Huppert, Aileen Hildebrandt, and Velda Snow.

Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Cobian will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church, W10137 570th Ave, in rural River Falls, WI, with Rev. Fr. Kevin Lewis and Rev. Fr. Jerry Harris concelebrating. Visitation will be held at church, beginning at 10:00 am. Donald’s final resting place will be in the parish cemetery. Several of Donald’s grandchildren have the honor as pallbearers. Memorials are preferred to the restoration of St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church.
