Donald Everett Monett, age 66, of Ellsworth, WI died Friday, October 7, 2016 after a short battle with cancer, at his home, with his family by his side.

Don was born on July 20, 1950 to Everett and Maxine (Place) Monett. He was raised in Elmwood until high school when his family moved to Ellsworth. Don was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He married Alice Erickson of Menomonie, WI on September 7, 1974. Don worked at Schulte’s Super Valu before starting a successful photography business in Ellsworth. He was named businessman of the year by the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce in 1994. Don continued his career at Dick’s Fresh Market in River Falls before finishing his career as a Senior Principal Technical Support Specialist at Ecolab, Inc.

Don was active in the community, volunteering for the Ellsworth Funsters, Hunter Safety instruction and the Ellsworth Rod and Gun. Through the Rod and Gun, Don helped to raise money for wildlife and developed a successful pheasant rearing and release program. He was an avid woodworker, specializing in children’s toys for his nieces, nephews and grandson.

Don is preceded in death by his father, Everett; sister, Kristine and step-brother, Jim Huber.

Don is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice of Ellsworth; his children, Christopher of Ellsworth, Daniel (Jessica) of Fountain City, WI, Marissa of Madison, WI; his grandson, Theodore Donald. Don is also survived by his mother, Maxine (Eldon) Huber; brothers, Dave (Barb) and Duane (Kathy); sister, Joan Baillargon; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Don will be 11:00 am Wednesday, October 12th at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, WI. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, October 11th at Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth and 1 hour prior to the service, at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley, WI.
