Donald H. Berning, 66, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, died at Rochester, Minnesota, Tuesday, July 3, 2017.
He was born in River Falls, Wisconsin on April 3, 1951, the son of Orval and Mildred (Gavin) Berning. Donald grew up in the rural River Falls area, in the town of Clifton, where his parents farmed. He graduated class of 1969 from River Falls High School. Donald worked for Capital Gear in St. Paul, MN, G.S. Electric in Hudson, WI, as a janitor at Zion Covenant Church in Ellsworth, and handled the lawn care and snowblowing at Crossing Meadows. Donald married Patricia Bibeau on May 12, 1984 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in River Falls, WI.

Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending games and programs at their schools. He liked camping out with their horses and helped the Pierce County Fair with their horses and barn repair.

Donald is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter, Carolyn (Daniel Maciej) Berning; four grandchildren, Rebecca Berning, Cameron Maciej, Gabrial Maciej, and Isabella Brink; three siblings, Larry (Sharon) Berning, Theresa (Jim) Lacy, and Roy (Beverly) Berning; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Lou Iehl; brother, Marvin Berning.
