Donald Praschak

Donald David Praschak was born June 27, 1931 in Glenwood City, WI to Felix and Anna (Paulus) Praschak. He died July 12, 2013 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center after a short battle with lung cancer. He attended Glenwood City High School and graduated the Class of 1950. He married Dotsie (Madonna) Zacharias on June 28, 1952. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Donna, Doreen, Diana and David. Donald proudly served his country in the USA 7th Armored Division. He was employed by Waldorf Paper, Don’s Bar, DeSmith Construction and Borson Construction for 30 years. He received a proclamation from the State of Minnesota for his expertise in building many well known sites. He recently received recognition for 50 continuous years of membership in the Twin Cities Carpenters Union.

Donald was a great Hilltopper sportsman for Glenwood City High School from 1945 – 1950. He was a skilled woodworker who left his trademark for many sites in the Glenwood City area. Starting at the age of 16 building silos, many barns, churches, businesses and homes in Glenwood City.

He was an avid sportsman, fisherman and he loved nature. He was a great gardener and shared it with others. You never left without an armful of produce. His hobbies were feeding the birds and tending to his garden. Every bird he fed came back to say goodbye including the bald eagle.

Donald will remain in the hearts of his wife, Dotsie (Madonna); children: Donna (Bruce) Lunak of St. Paul, Doreen Praschak of Minneapolis, Diana (Jeff) Sanders of Glenwood City and David (Sarah) Praschak of Somerset; his grandchildren, who were the love of his life: Kimberly and Kristina Sanders, Alex, Luke, Maxwell and Katherine Praschak. Donald is also leaving behind many dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and infant brother.

His last quote was “I’m an old man. I’m 82 years old, what more do you want from me. I’m ready to go.”

As his last request, he is being cremated and a celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date at the places he loved. Cremation services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin (715) 684-3434.
