Dorothy Ausink

Dorothy Fairbrook Ausink, age 97, of Hudson, WI, passed away March 5, 2019 at the Christian Community Home of Hudson. Dorothy was born January 25, 1922, in Yakima, Washington, to Lloyd and Ruth (Gray) Fairbrook. She graduated from high school in Yakima and attended Yakima Valley Junior College before taking a job as the secretary for the Dean of the University of Oregon. On April 23, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Arthur Herman (Art) Assink at First Christian Church in Yakima. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Dorothy took care of the family as Art’s job with Boeing relocated them several times across the country. She also worked as a secretary for the Richmond Beach Congregational Church, in Richmond Beach, WA. Dorothy and Art retired to Seattle, WA, and she volunteered for many years at the U.S.O. Northwest at the Sea-Tac airport. After Art’s death in 1994, Dorothy remained in Seattle (Tukwila) until health concerns forced her to leave her beloved West Coast and relocate to be near her daughter in Hudson.

Throughout her life, Dorothy loved to sing, play piano and violin, and dress up as a rather scary witch for Halloween! She wrote hundreds of long, delightful letters to friends and family over the years, and was active with the Presbyterian Church and the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood. Dorothy was fond of visiting with people of all ages, but especially with the “elderly” when she was well into her 80s.

Dorothy will remain in the hearts of her children, Adele (Mark) Dolan, and John (Elaine Simmons) Ausink; grandchildren, Kathleen (Collin) Geraghty, Kyle (Stacey) Dolan, John (Kristin) Dolan, Ruth Dolan, Mebratu Ausink, and Kalkidan Ausink; great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Isla Geraghty, and Charles, Fiona, and Henry Dolan; sister-in-law, Anna Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; daughter, April; her parents; and siblings, James (Doris) Fairbrook, Helen (Alan) Jones, and John (Marjean) Fairbrook.

A Funeral Service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16th at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Ave., Hudson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th at the Holland Cemetery in Moxee, WA. Memorials preferred.
