Dorothy Gertrude Hanneman, age 92 of Elmwood WI and formerly of Verndale, MN, died on November 16, 2010 at Elmwood WI. Dorothy was born July 30th, 1918 in Verndale MN to parents Nickolus and Katheryn (Tix) Goche. Dorothy attended a country school, and went on to graduate from Verndale High School. On May 7th, 1937, Dorothy would be united in marriage to William B. Hanneman in Blue Grass MN. Their union in marriage would be blessed with five children. They farmed together for forty years.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time reading, sewing, embroidering and quilting. Dorothy did excellent embroidery work and quilting. She won prizes at craft fairs for her quilts and towels. Many of her relatives and friends still have the towels, pillow cases, aprons, and quilts she made for them as gifts on special occasions. She was also very active in her churches, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Bertha and St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Wadena. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers and St. Anne’s Mission Circle. Dorothy also served on the Verndale Parent Teacher’s Association. As a young woman, Dorothy loved going to dances and playing cards, and some of her fondest memories were the good times she had with good friends at these dances and card parties.
From 1994 to the present she was lovingly cared for by the staffs at the Parkview Home Woodville, WI and the Heritage Home located in Elmwood, WI.
Dorothy will remain in the hearts of her daughters, Donna (Ed) Wollack of Woodville, Karen Bub of Milwaukee WI, and Elizabeth Wenzel of Menlo Park CA; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her brother Louis Goche of Verndale MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband (William B.); children Janice (Ralph) Zwart, and Michael Hanneman; grandson Arthur Bub; her parents; and siblings Nick, Martin, LeRoy, Sylvester, Veronica, and Leona.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Hanneman will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday November 22nd at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 757 First Street, Glenwood City WI, with Father Norbert D’Mello and Deacon Wes Tuttle officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church. A second visitation will also be held on Tuesday November 23rd from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena MN. Burial will follow at the Wadena Cemetery, Wadena MN. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin WI.
