Dorothy Yanisch

Dorothy Lillian Yanisch, age 95 of Prescott, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Wellhaven Assisted Living in River Falls, WI.  Dorothy was born August 9, 1925 in Ellsworth, WI to Louis and Thekla (Lubinski) Stern.  On February 12, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Herbert Yanisch.  Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Frances, Faye and Teresa.  Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, providing unconditional love and caring to her family as a homemaker and supportive farmers wife, later working for Haven Homes and Smead Manufacturing in Hastings.  She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prescott, WI.

Living on the farm and throughout her life, Dorothy had a special place in her heart for animals, especially horses.  She loved children and cared for many little ones throughout the years by babysitting.  Her heart was happiest when she was entertaining friends and family in her home.  She was an exceptional baker and made the best cookies that her family truly enjoyed and remember.  Dorothy also delighted in finding good deals at local garage sales.  Dorothy was well loved by her family and those that had the honor to get to know her gentle and caring soul.  She was a wonderful lady and will be dearly missed.

Dorothy will remain in the hearts of her daughter, Terri (James) Avery of Cumberland, WI; grandchildren:  Robert (Kelly) Buss, Sandy (Brian) Ewing, Mike Buss, Dory Keck, Bill “Boomer” Riley, Sean (Natasha) Riley, Nick Goodwin, Brianne (Dave) Hempel and Brett (Kaylyne) Hempel; 26 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Deiss; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; daughters, Frances Buss and Faye Riley; brother, Walter Stern; sister, Marion (Gerald) Dinger.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church, W10137 570th Ave., River Falls. A Visitation (masks and social distancing required) will be held starting at 9:30 AM until the start of Mass at the church.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prescott, WI. Dorothy’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Wellhaven staff, especially Lenora and Cindy, for their exceptional care of Dorothy, along with the caring nurses of Adoray Hospice.
