Douglas “Doug” Monteith

Douglas E. Monteith, age 76 of Woodville, WI, passed away at Abbott NW Hospital due to heart failure on Monday, March 4, 2019.

Doug was born in River Falls, WI, to Noel and Dorothe Monteith on April 20, 1942. He attended and graduated from Baldwin High School. Shortly after graduation, Doug enlisted in the United States Navy and Served from 1961 to 1964. During his tour of duty, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Boldt. To this union were born two children, Lori and Ron.

Doug worked as a heavy equipment operator for almost 50 years; most of those years were spent working for Miller Excavating in Stillwater, MN.

Our hearts are full knowing that Doug’s caring and compassion for his family, friends and pets were felt by many. He greeted everyone with a wave, hug or handshake and a generous, kind heart. “Gramps” or “Big Doug” lived every day by the Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would want others to treat you.”

Every day, his four-legged friends, Natty and Sam, went for a drive in the dog truck and a walk. Many recognized Doug when he was out and about and were met with a wave and a smile. The love for John Deere green and Caterpillar yellow are evident by Doug’s extensive collections.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; daughter, Lori (Brent) Elhorn and son, Ron (Laurie); grandchildren, Josh Elhorn, Holly (Andy) Heinbuch, Hillary (Mike) Bignell, Hannah (Adam Delander) Elhorn and Jake Monteith; great-grandchildren, Landen, Owen, Callie, Lane, Ava and Sadie; brother, Tom (TJ); also by siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI. Interment will be held privately by the family at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
