Douglas W. Hamlin

Douglas William “Doug” Hamlin, age 92 of Roberts, passed away July 4, 2018 at the Hammond Health Service. Doug was born June 18, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN, the oldest son of Francis and Violet (Davis) Hamlin. He attended North St. Paul High School before serving with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After his military service, he took a job at Montgomery Wards where he met the love of his life, Irene Sinna. The couple were united in marriage on December 4, 1948 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in North St. Paul. For a short time Doug and Irene operated a farm in Lemmon, SD, before moving to Shoreview, MN and starting a family. In 1958 the family moved to a farm in Roberts, WI. Doug worked for 3M as a Maintenance Mechanic for 30 years, before retiring in 1987. In retirement, Doug and Irene enjoyed traveling with their trailer and camping across the United States. They spent their winters in Mission, TX for 20 years. In 2000, North St. Paul High School presented Doug a high school diploma as part of Honorary Graduation for WWII Veterans called away to war before their graduations. Doug was deeply honored by their gesture.

Doug loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed being on his farm in Roberts growing corn and soybeans, and he was fond of playing card games, especially Whist and 500.

Doug will remain in the hearts of his beloved wife of 69 years, Irene; children, Carol (John) Dean of Woodbury, MN, Mark (Jane) Hamlin of Roberts, and Paula (Jason Grinnell) Hamlin of Roberts; grandchildren, Douglas Dean, Diana (Jeremy) Hugo, Marie Hamlin, Indi Hamlin, Elizabeth Webb, Abbie Webb, and Megan Cave; great-grandchildren, Brody Dean, Ava Dean, and Jamison Hugo; brothers, Dick, DeWayne and Dan Hamlin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Donald and Dale.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 9 at Cross Lutheran Church, 1246 County Rd. TT, Roberts, WI. Visitation will be held at the church from 3:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, July 8, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will military honors at the Warren Cemetery in Roberts.
