Edward Eugene Sveen

Edward Eugene Sveen, age 77,of River Falls,, WI passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at his home.

Edward was the son of Arthur and Carrie (Olson) Sveen and was born on February 20, 1938 in Galesville, WI. Edward grew up in Galesville and was a graduate of Gale-Ettrik High School. He also attended UW River Falls, majoring in English and Social Studies. Edward spent two years in the U.S. Navy aboard carrier ships.

On June 17, 1960 he married Joan Merchant in Winona, MN. For the next several years he worked in the graphic arts field, where he served as the chief operating officer for Graphics Unlimited from the age of 35 until his retirement.

In Ed’s earlier years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. For many of those years he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends at the cabin. He also played golf and many card games, especially bridge and cribbage. Ed was meticulous about his yard care and gardening, raising beautiful flowers. However, his greatest joy in life were his grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Leo, Ronald, and Robert Sveen.

He is survived by his wife Joan, of fifty-five years. Two children: Mark (Jennifer) Sveen and Laura (Brian) Karch. Grandchildren: Grace Dickinson, and Jacob and Eli Karch. One sister. Sonja Olson, of Ettrik, WI and brother, Clarence (Gloria) Sveen, of Winona, MN. One sister-in-law, Carol Bolster, of Sparta, WI. Ed is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many wonderful long-time friends.

A memorial service for Edward Eugene Sveen will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, August 24, 2015 at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, River Falls, WI. A private family interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls, WI. Visitation will be from 12:30pm until time of services at 2:00pm.

Full military honors will be provided by the veterans of Fletcher-Pechacek American Legion Post #121, River Falls, WI.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses at The Infusion Center at The River Falls Area Hospital and to Adoray Home Health Care and Hospice, especially Nancy Rock.
