Edward Fink

Edward John Fink, age 86 of New Richmond, died Friday June 21st 2019 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul following a battle with Cancer. Ed was born on August 28, 1932 in Seattle, Washington; the son of Lloyd and Lyela Fink. He was raised in Seattle where he graduated from Edmunds High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the armed forces.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return, he began working for Great Northern Railway. He worked in the dining services. He would work his way through the ranks and a few name changes (Burlington and then Amtrak). He thoroughly enjoyed his work and retired as Head Steward of the dining car. In 1965, he was united in marriage to Jane Hansen. Together, they embarked on fifty-four years of hard work and fun. They owned and operated motels in Prairie du Chien and Baldwin, WI as well as a liquor store in La Crescent, MN. Outside of being an entrepreneur, he was a gifted carpenter who enjoyed tinkering. He built by hand their cabin on Balsam Lake and subsequently had great memories their. He was an avid outdoorsman when given the opportunity, as he loved partridge hunting and fishing. He and Jane enjoyed time spent traveling in their Winnebago motor home and camping at various parks around the state.

Ed is survived by his wife Jane; children Ted (Pat) Hansen of Balsam Lake, Linda (David) Hawkins of Roberts, Don Hansen of New Richmond, Debbie Monzel of Hudson; grandchildren Mark (Rachel) Hansen, Kim (Tim) Burlage, Heidi (Doug) Green, Aaron (Kelly) Moe, Jennifer (Adam) Brown, Emily Monzel, Adam Monzel; great grandchildren Kylie, Chad, Ella, Jordan, Jackson, Dylan, and Addyson. Ed is preceded in death by his brother Donald (Leona) Fink.

A time for family and friends to gather to remember Edward, will be on Thursday, June 27th from 4pm to 6pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home; 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin. Interment with full military honors paying tribute to his service in the Navy will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
